Great story

Great story. Actually, I should say stories. Glenn Frank skillfully weaves two stories together and keeps us reading to find how they are linked and how they turn out.

rewarding

This book is great. It evokes strong memories of a world at war and the human side of love, tragedy and redemption. It starts out with parallel stories decades apart and for a time the reader doesn't quite know how they're related. After a time you're investd in both story lines and it doesn't matter. The story comes together beautifully in the end and makes it a very rewarding experience.

A must read

Author Glenn Frank gives us characters and settings so rich in emotional and historical reality that the reader feels transported to another time and place. The unique and wonderful use of parallel story lines hooks the reader from the beginning and never lets go, even as the stories converge in the books heartfelt and touching ending. This is a fantastic novel, which I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a fresh new voice and engrossing stories that give insight into base humanity and it's many manifestations such as; discovery, loss, horror, love, honor, cruelty, respect and redemption.

I loved this book

Glenn Frank hits a home run with his first visit to the plate. This is a moving and compelling novel, a taut and involving story that's a kind of house of mirrors of reflections on reflections on the meaning of life, where form and content work beautifully together to tell an engrossing story. Think of this terrific novel as a combination of Isaac Bashevis Singer, O. Henry, and Tolstoy's Death of Ivan Ilych--there are probably better comparisons, but that's the closest I can get to right now. This is a must read for anyone who likes novels that make you both think and feel, and who like a stunning ending.
