Clarification about the editions, Vista Version of Software

The book "ABAP Objects - ABAP Programming in SAP NetWeaver" (grey Cover, 950 pages, published by SAP PRESS, March 15, 2007, ISBN-10: 1592290795 ISBN-13: 978-1592290796) is the new edition of the book "ABAP Objects: Introduction to Programming SAP Applications" (black Cover, 576 pages, published by Addison-Wesley, June 14, 2002, ISBN-10: 0201750805, ISBN-13: 978-0201750805). The new book replaces the old book. The new book covers release 7.0 of the ABAP Application Server (former SAP Basis). The old book covers release 4.6. The software of the new book is a Trial Version of the ABAP Application Server 7.0 that is supported in the SAP Developers Network (SDN). The software of the old book is a Mini Basis 4.6 and is not supported any more. The contents of the old book is partly out of date. The software of the old book should not be installed any more. The programming examples of the old book are still valid and can also be carried out with the software of the new book. If you have the old book and want to install the software of the new book, you can download it from the SDN. A Trial Version of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server 7.01 ABAP is available for Windows Vista now. This version includes all programming examples from the book. You can download it from the SAP Developers Network.

Good Book... but you have some troubles for Win XP

I Liked this book. But I had some troubles to install it fully operation at Windows XP (at Windows 2000 worked fine). I created a homepage with some tips to install it on Windows XP, and the first program: www.autocom.com.br/erick/abapobjects

Pretty good book

I dont have anything bad to say regarding this book. familiarity with Object oriented and programming paradims is certainly useful. This is not a learn in 21 days book. Set aside coupla months and enjoy the ride. The cool thing abt this book is the ability to tryout the abap programs. I DID HAVE PROBLEMS!!! 1)installing the CDs. I am using Windows XP and had coupla glitches.1) you should add the ip address and computer name to the /etc/hosts file on your computer. It can be found in the system32 folder.2) You probably need to copy the contents of the Data CD(2) to hard disk (incase you dont have 2 CD drives. And specify the location of the data files during instalation.2) Problem creating Objects: I did have problems creating Objects..It was frustrating for a while. Then I figured out the solution after some online research.a) Try to apply the patch then comes with the CD.b) renaming my files to start with z_ solved the problem

Seasoned ABAPers should get this book

I've been an ABAP programmer in the Boston area since 1994. And, I consider myself to be a pretty fluent programer. However, I was not comfortable with the new Object Orientation the language was taking. This book, literally, walks you through the creation of ABAP reports and dialog transactions using the new OO paradigm. It explains the "wheres" and "whyfors" along the way so that you can really grasp the new concepts. I think it's fabulous.

Very useful content / good CDs

This book is the best book about ABAP I've been reading so far. A well structured content and a simple approach to explain the new ABAP concepts are probably the best ways to describe the book. The CDs contain a complete SAP System which is a great way to get lot's of practise.
