A Woman of Substance avoids rabbit trails

So much material, so many directions you can go! Of all the different writing I have done, authoring a Bible study has been the most difficult for just that reason. Tangents, rabbit trails, and other topic deterrents can leave the reader wondering what the study was supposed to be about anyway. Thus, staying focused on the subject takes a skilled writer and results in a concise, relevant and useful study. Sheila Eismann is such a writer and her talents have resulted in the very insightful Bible study, A Woman of Substance. A woman's Bible study often contains the "usual" women such as Esther and Ruth, who are both shining examples of ladies who have hearts to serve God. Eismann does a terrific job of integrating these women into A Woman of Substance but doesn't stop there. A lesser-known Biblical lady is Abigail and Eismann tells her story in a chapter cleverly titled "Dear Abby". Speaking of clever, Eismann mixes in humor with stories from her Idaho upbringing. In addition, A Woman of Substance contains a variety of Bible verses from both the New Testament and Old Testaments. Eismann spices up the study with references to word origins and definitions as well as self-reflection questions which challenge the reader to grow personally through the study. This variety of options makes the book appealing to a wide variety of readers with various learning styles. Another benefit of this book is that space is included in the book itself for answers to questions so that a separate notebook isn't needed to make use of the study. Finally, the book itself is small enough to fit in the pocket of a Bible book cover so A Woman of Substance can be easily accessed at any time by the reader. Whether done individually in a group, A Woman of Substance is an excellent Bible study for anybody who wants to learn more about the Bible and thus, themselves.

A very practical and Biblical look at being a real woman in today's world

A Woman of Stubstance is a very practical look at women of old and new and what it means to be a woman of substance. I love how the author applies every-day things that we as women think about, and do, to draw the reader in to how our physical appearance/behavior should reflect our inward appearance/behavior. She's a very astute learner of the Bible, which is teaching me a lot about the great women of our Biblical heritage. The author's humor is fun and keeps the study moving along fast. I've really enjoyed doing the study with a few close friends and it's touched each of our lives in surprisingly various ways.
