Jenny becomes alarmed when she surmises Mrs. Matthews, a neighborhood newcomer, is a witch. Should she expose her or exorcise her? This description may be from another edition of this product.
Jennifer lives on a Lake in a community where the members can vote on who is permitted to purchase homes there. Jennifer's best friend, who lives on the Lake, moves away and Jennifer hopes that her other friend from school will be able to move into the vacated house; but when the membership committee turns his family down for discriminatory reasons, Jennifer is left lonely without her two best friends. It looks like it could be the worst summer ever until Meeghan and her family (husband, two young children) move in and befriend her. The joke is on the Membership committee. Meeghan has a secret that unfolds as the story continues. Jennifer learns a little of Meeghan's colorful past, meets an unusual pet, is exposed to behavior that is slightly different from what she has come to expect from people, and learns lessons in communication and responsibility. I reread this book about every 3 years. If you are looking for a children's book that actually explains Wiccan beliefs and practices, this isn't it. There are some good suggestive passages and a little misdirection (the whole good witch - bad witch thing). Consider the source. The book still has value because it is a well-told story and addresses issues of prejudical misunderstandings. One of my favorite scenes is where Jennifer goes to the library to try to find out more about Witchcraft and is a little unnerved by how eager the librarian is to help her.
This is the type of book you never want to put down.

I would reccomend this book to anyone from the ages of 12-16 because you have to be old enough to understand it. This book was very exciting especially when Jennifer suspects Meeghan is a witch. Some parts, like the discription of the plants in a witch's garden, did drag. This was a very realistic book. Everything seemed so real. Everyone who can should read this book. If you get a chance go to the library and check it out. Read this book if you like a good one.
