All the basic you want to know about a troop of chimpanzees

I never really cared much for Cheetah in the Tarzan movies, but when "National Geographic" showed Jane Goddall studying chimpanzees in the wilds of Africa I found that absolutely fascinating. I still remember Fifi, Flo, Flint, Gremlin, David Greybeard and the rest of those first chimpanzees, especially when baby Flint watched his mother Flo fish for termites with a sticky blade of grass, showing that humans were not the only "tool-using animal." So when Richard and Louise Spilsbury tells us about the lives of "A Troop of Chimpanzees" in this book from the Animal Groups series, I see it as being in that same tradition. The idea of these books from Heinemann InfoSearch is to ask the questions young readers would want answered when looking at each particular animal group, such as: Where Do Chimps Live? How Do Chimps Care for Their Young? and What Dangers Does a Troop Face? Each question can lead to subordinate questions; for example, asking What Are Chimpanzees? leads to the question What is a troop? as well as drawing distinctions between chimpanzees and their close relative the bonobo. The volume is illustrated with dozens of color photographs of the chimpanzees in the wild and at research centers. This book covers a lot of basic information about chimpanzees and any young student assigned to research these animals will find it extremely useful as the first place to check out. The back contains a set of chimpanzee facts, including a map showing where in Africa chimps still live, a Glossary of words that appear in boldface in the text from "adaptation" to "territory," and a list of More Books to Read, which includes Goodall's "The Chimpanzee Family Book." So if young students want to find out even more information they can find books at the next level. Other titles in the Animal Groups series look at "A Colony of Ants," "A Murder of Crows," "A Pack of Wolves," "A Pod of Whales," and "A Pride of Lions."
