Stories by William Morris, George MacDonald, Lord Dunsany, H. P. Lovecraft, and others tell of fairies, elves, and magical lands This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book is great bargain, and any fantasy fan should own a copy. This anthology includes three great fantasy novels by founders of the genre: George MacDonald's Phantastes, William Morris's The Wood Beyond the World, and Lord Dunsany's The King of Elfland's Daughter. Phantastes includes the complete text, unlike most editions of the novel, and illustrations from a nineteenth-century edition. The King of Elfland's Daughter has illustrations by Aubrey Beardsley. That alone would make the book worth getting. But it also has The Story of Sigurd in the William Morris and Eirikr Magnusson translation; The Quest of the Holy Graal, by Andrew Lang's wife, a chunk of Palmerin of England (Robert Southey translation), Carlyle's translation of The Elves by Tieck, John Ruskin's children's classic The King of the Golden River, stories by H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, and Ursula LeGuin's classic story "The Rule of Names". This is a great book.
