This book and all the others by Erickson about Warton and his brother Morton were favourites at our house when my children were young. I read them out loud many times. Good conversation, delightful story with a hint of danger, and a happy ending.Read all the Warton and Morton books - they're great!

Our third grade class really enjoyed this book especially how Warton and George became friends at the end. It taught us a lot about friendship. Parts of it were even funny. We all ate peanut brittle and pretended it was beetle brittle.

With all the riff raff and dwawdle out there this book is a delightful discovery. I enjoyed it as much as the children. A favorite!
Great Read-Aloud

I have read this to my children twice (ages range from 4 to 7). My 7-year-old read it twice herself. This & the Wizard of Oz are both well-written and are interesting/humorous enough to entertain the adult reader as well and are the two favorite read-alouds in our house (and we read almost every night).
