Ryann Barrens is a sixteen-year-old girl who was diagnosed with autism at a young age. In this memoir, she details how she overcame her fears of going to a new school. As a young girl she worked hard to do well at home and school, making new friends and getting good grades in spite of new and unique challenges she faced. At times she was frustrated by listening problems, and struggled to solve some issues as a teenager, often feeling too scared to speak up. It remains difficult to face her fears and quit worrying about other people's opinions, when what she really wants is to speak up for the world. Though she has learned so much, the journey continues as Ryann matures now as an eighteen-year-old teen who experiences autism. Ryann chooses not to accept the stigma that is attached to the label of autism (i.e., disability) but as a person with a unique extraordinary ability to live a normal life and uplift others.
