Book Overview

Kimberla Lawson Roby returns with another moving and triumphant novel about a woman who, against all odds, battles the most blatant kind of workplace discrimination while dealing with a crumbling marriage and a trusted friend's betrayal. On the surface, Anise seems to have it all: a successful career, a solid marriage, and good friends. But when she applies for a promotion at work, she loses out to a white colleague who isn't nearly as qualified for...

In my Opinion

My thing is this, thes book didn't have the expected ending doesn't make it a bad one.I mean everyon thought that things were going to be where Frank and Anise were going to get deeper or marry but that didn't happen.I think it was a very good read. The book is called A Taste of Reality folks get it together.Reality tells us that everything doesn't have blithe endings. Also I give Anise a reader's ovation for her attitude towards life at the end.VERY VERY GOOD READ

Never mess with a sista.........

Anise was determined and rightfully so!! She demonstrates that you don't mess with a sista. Thank You Kimberla....you have done it again, girl!! You are one of the best authors!! I sincerely enjoy your books!!

True Life

Ms. Roby has tapped on story that happens in corporate America daily. She pens the story as a one well acquainted with this life. I enjoyed the book and recommend for all to read.

The excellncy of writing!

This book was soooo good I couldn't put it down. I mean from the time I opened it to the first chapter to the last chapter this book was excellent. I was reading it in the bathroom, in the car, at work as usual but more so in every second I got. That's what I love about Kimberla Lawson Roby she never miss a beat. When I read her books I tend to put myself in the lead characters shoes. In which I did with Anise. I could see myself doing exactly what Anise had to do. There was no way she should have had to continue going through being denied a position up in rank due to the color of her skin. See we as African Americans have done and will continue to do what we have to be be heard. We know this world is still filled with Racist. I just want to know if Frank left Anise for his exwife after the chase he went through to get her. How he helped her to bring down the three evils of the company and how he paved the way for not ony him and Anise but the other employees as well and those to come after them. I am looking forward to reading all about Frank and Anise in 2005 to find out. I will wait to grade that book as well. I know it will be a 5***** also.

She Keeps Getting Better

I am so surprised at the reviews about this book. I thought everyone would feel the way I do. I couldn't put it down and there were times when I tried to, but couldn't. Ms. Roby writes about real every day issues. I don't understand anyone who says she spent too much time on racism. America spends too much time on racism. This was an entertaining, fictional read with a REAL Taste of Reality! I wish we could get past reading for entertainment only. Isn't it great to be entertained and learn something too? Keep writing, Ms. Roby. I can't wait for your next read.
