Suspenseful, original, and very highly recommended reading

Engagingly written by W. Y. Boyd (a WW II veteran who served as a combat infantryman in Europe), A Rendezvous With Death is a historical fiction murder mystery which set in the European battlefields of World War II. When an American soldier and a civilian woman are murdered, Second Lieutenant Charles Donnelly must ferret out the truth of who did the deed and why - yet when the trail points to one of his fellow officers, it is his own life which is in grave peril. A Rendezvous With Death is suspenseful, original, and very highly recommended reading.

A Powerful World War II Novel

In a powerful World War II novel, Bill Boyd brilliantly portrays the treacherous and courageous existence of young American Infantry soldiers on the German front while simultaneously weaving in a captivating murder mystery. Boyd's own World War II experiences and decorated heroics on the battlefield allow the reader to gain an insider's perspective on the lives of the young men who gave their all for our country. Along with the Gentle Infantryman and A Fight for Love and Glory, A Rendezvous With Death is a must read for any World War II buff.

Intriguing and absolutely delightful!

I read this novel with great expectations as I had already read all of Mr. Boyd's previous published works. But, did this novel surprised me! It is well researched, graciously written; the plot grabs you from the very beginning plunging you into the depth of combat experience and into the soul of every soldier of WWII. It is definitley the most gripping war novel I have read in years with the additional element of the war events being wrapped into a murder mystery.

a great read

On the surface, Bill Boyd's A Rendezvous with Death appears to be a war novel with a fast paced murder mystery plot. Although the vivid and realistic war scenes will captivate many military history fans, and the murder mystery will have all readers eagerly turning the pages, it is the deeper themes Boyd touches upon that make this book a must read. As the protagonist investigates the crime, he embarks on a journey that leads him to realize that often the combatants in war have more in common with their supposed enemies than those on their own side. This book is more about shared experiences, love, and people's feelings than it is about war. Entertaining, thought provoking and highly recommended.

When Will Hollywood Discover Mr. Boyd?

I have never been more surprised by a book. It's a mystery, romance, and rough combat novel all in one. I never knew which card Boyd would play next. Plot twists, strong characters and vivid murder scenes left me with the feeling I was there watching. Boyd's subtle use of language and attention to historical detail pulled me through to the end. And when I finally got there, I recalled the author was a veteran of the very scenes he described. Such incredible events to have survived. I commend Mr. Boyd for having the courage to write about what are surely painful memories. What a wonderful read.
