After reading "Wicked Loving Lies", I was not planning to read anymore of her books. But, I already had purchased this book and it was sitting of my book shelf. So, I thought I would read it to see if it was any better. I really did enjoy this book. I actually had a hard time putting it down. I just wanted to keep reading and reading. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes regency romances. As always, Happy reading!!!!

Cecila and Colter were well-matched as all Rosemary Rogers Characters are. I have read every novel she has written, except for "The Wanton", and I have always found that the heroine is strong and resourceful. Filled with determination and honor. The Hero is always dark, sexy and intriguing. I have read reviews by readers who seem to compare all her heroes to, Steve Morgan, the hero in Sweet Savage Love! Perhaps this is because 'Sweet Savage Love' was such a wonderfully written novel that it belongs beside 'Gone with the Wind' as a classic. The thing I believe that made the novel so memorable was that Ginny matched Steve and Steve matched Ginny. This is what I find makes all of Rosemary Rogers' novels memorable. You may not want the hero for yourself--though this is rare--but you will never be able to say the hero and the heroine were not meant for each other. In 'A Reckless Encounter', this is very true. The suspicion and dark intrigue behind the romance is always interesting. I never know for sure if I'm turning the pages to bury myself in the romance or the intrigue. Bravo! Rosemary! And Thank you!

Frankly, I don't understand what book the PW reviewer read. I found the comments misleading, at best. It's explained quite well why Celia didn't have a maid accompany her to England, and all the Rosemary Rogers heroines I've ever read are strong, unconventional women anyway. The hero is very alpha male, a strong man passionate about his country as well as the heroine. I loved the historical facts, and did not find they overpowered the story. Has the reviewer never read The Scarlet Pimpernel? It was not unknown for men of the upper class to become spies. Nor was it unknown for them to involve themselves in the business aspects of their estates and holdings. It's ridiculous to think they dipped snuff all day and allowed employees to handle all the details. At any rate, I agree that the romance was not as overpowering as in Ms Rogers other books, but it was still hot and breathtaking. Overall, I found this book two cuts above many of the other books out today, and have no qualms in giving it 5 stars.
An exciting Regency romance

A few years before the War of 1812, English Lord Northington visits widow Leonie St. Remy in her Georgetown home without an invitation. Used to taking what he wants, he rapes Leonie and kills her servant. When her twelve-year-old daughter Celia testifies to the authorities, the arrogant aristocrat claims he and Leonie were consenting adults and that he was defending himself from the Leonie's unprovoked attack. An exonerated Northington goes home to England while Celia vows vengeance, especially after her beloved mother dies in childbirth. A decade later, Celia sails to England with plans to confront Lord Northington with what he did to her mother. Unbeknownst to her, also on the ship is Lord Northington's son Colter. After debarking in England, Colter visits his father and they share their usual acrimonious discussion. Celia soon learns that her mom's rapist must be Colter's dad so she plans to use the son to get at her target. However, Celia falls in love with the son of the man she has obsessively despised for a decade. A RECKLESS ENCOUNTER is an exciting Regency romance due to two strong story lines and two enticing, intrepid lead protagonists. The tale includes an exquisite personal relationship subplot along with a second theme centering on anti-aristocracy feelings and radical reform. The two premises brilliantly blend to form a strong novel though there is some unnecessary baggage towards the end of the tale involving his uncle.Harriet Klausner
