This book is a great introductory Bible study all by itself - for it brings out the Catholic teachings that are hidden in Sacred Scripture A famous book - one which received recommendations from 14 bishops when first published and which went through at least 16 editions - this commentary is not a work for scholars; but rather a very practical book for the ordinary Catholic. Impr.
This Bible Commentary is intentionally brief, more of an overview than a verse-by-verse or chapter-by-chapter commentary, but it is comprehensive enough to give the student of Holy Scripture a good understanding of the message of the Bible from a Catholic viewpoint. One should not let the size of this Commentary fool them. It is challenging, faith building, and the result of much study. It is a good addition to any Catholic's library who wants to study Scripture from a Traditional Catholic viewpoint. The edition here is published by Tan Books. Clear, readable type but a paperback with a glued binding.

Fantastic and easy to read.More of an overview of the Bible than a commentary, but very thorough.I highly recommend this as well as the Haydock Douay Rheims Bible.
Surprisingly concise and easy to read

Considering that this book was published in 1923, it is an incredibly easy book to understand and read. I highly suggest this book as a supplement to your bible reading.
A Good----Practical Commentary on the Bible

"A Practical Commentary on Holy Scripture" is great because it explains a lot of the important biblical events in the Bible. It explains it according to Catholic teaching. There is no Modernist or liberal commentary here. It was recommended by over ten Catholic bishops during the pontificate of His Holiness, Pope Pius XI. It does not explain every book in the Bible and summarizes much of the important events of the Bible. For example, the explanation of the Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden is quite excellent, especially the importance of why Adam and Eve were not supposed to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
A must have for every Catholic Home

An absolutely beautifully written book. Easy to understand, totally accurate in its description of events. I recommended the book to family and friends and they all purchased the book. Once you start reading it, you cannot put it down. My family and friends all share the same opinion, once you start reading the book -- it is hard to stop reading. A wealth of knowledge for all Catholic Lay people -- adults as well as children.
