Brings Back Memories

I purchased this book for my mother and aunt for Christmas who's parents came over from Italy and who are now gone. They loved it. Actually, my neighbor submitted one of his pictures for this book and met the author. His copy is signed by her! What I love about this book is any Italian with ancestors from Italy can relate to what's written. I can remember stories my mother and aunt would tell me and reading this book brought them back. Something all Italians should have as part of their collection.

This is a Beautiful Book

This is a beautiful book. Anyone with an interest in Italian-Americanism, or the immigrant story in general, would like this book. I can't get enough of the old photos. This is a real keeper.

Bellamente Scritto

Beautifully written. Vincenza Scarpaci has captured the very essence of what immigration was about and how the Italians assimilated themselves into their individual communities and moved forward into the future. This is a treasure trove of memories and photos of a time past and yet still lived in many ways. Even if you're not of Italian descent, you can't help but be pulled back in time with these stories and live them again. A big salute to Vincenza and the Italian American communities.

Italian Americans, A Vital Thread in the American Fabric

America, our fabric is strong! The Journey of Italians to America helps tell all of us why. This book illustrates clearly in photo and text, how the heritage of Italians to America is an incredible story represented now by a contemporary presence in all of our great States. It is a collection of the stories of people who through courage and humility in their struggles and who through determination and pride of traditionsas and allegiance to a new land, have woven into the fabric of fifty United States. The photos are incredible, each a visual treasure, supported by descriptive text. Together with the authors writing skills and organization of the book, they tell a compelling story of the varied journeys of Italians in America. They are stories that are paralled in every ethnic group in their own experiences. My mother Anna, a retired dressmaker, is pictured in a document on page 184 with a caption. Her individual story represents just one of millions that this book brings to the light of our collective awareness. I thank the author, Vincenza Scarpaci for this book and graciously agreeing to publish my mother's U.S. Naturalization Certificate, a document Mom always treasured. Italian Americans are a strong and vital thread in our fabric. I highly recommend this book to all. Bill Russo, New Jersey
