A good book and a good park!

We got this book two years ago while on vacation in Mackinac. It was fun to go back this year to the Mill Creek Park. Ride the zip line - it's fun.....and that coming from someone who gets car sick in her own neighborhood. ALL the Sleeping Bear Press "Michigan" books (as we call them in our house) are LOVELY.

Learn about Michigan/US history and enjoy a good story!

It is such a treat to have author Janie Lynn Panagopoulos and artist Gijsbert van Frankenhuyzen providing us with wonderful books about our Michigan history. In this picture book, they tell us about the Mill Creek sawmill and the people who lived in the Straits of Mackinac in the 18th century. Based on the lives of the Campbell family who built and ran the sawmill, the story also tells us more about the history of the whole area. The detailed illustrations fill the pages with color and information. In addition, there are extensive historical notes preceding the story as well as a glossary and timeline of the area following the story. What a great way for young people to learn about our history!
