A Pattern of Behavior

In 1981, Idris Crawford began submitting chapters to the periodical Dark Stories of Mania over the course of 3 years. When it was discovered that his was a pen name, editor Donna Meadows grew concerned this was a true cautionary tale against enabling dangerous patterns of behavior and an anonymous post-mortem plea of forgiveness to his children. Her co-editor, Roy Rosenberg, disagreed as theirs was a publication known for fiction.

Based on these obscure and forgotten journals (published as a complete series in the anthology edition of Dark Stories of Mania vol. 3 in 1986), Fillip Kentent has modernized, by proxy, the story of a family's dissolution after a mother's inevitable, complete, and dangerous mental collapse. Before the age of readily available social media diagnoses, the original text was shrouded in confusion, coercion, and an unknown pathology that even today has escaped acknowledgement and treatment by both medical and legal professionals with dire consequences.
