Book Overview

When western novelist Sadie Goodwin must pen a romance novel to rescue her lackluster sales, there's only one tiny problem: she's never been in love.

Desperate to salvage her career, Sadie accepts an invitation to hole up at her friend's beach duplex for the summer and devote herself to this confounding genre. After all, where better to witness love than on the beautiful South Carolina shore?

But Sadie soon finds many...

a great beach read

It's another fun novel by Denise Hunter. The writing is easy to read, the characters are lovable, the plot and premise are delightful, and faith lessons are applicable. It has a bit more rom-com feel to the book than I am used to from the author but it worked really well. Each chapter has a "how to write a romance novel" topic leading into Sam and Sadie's story, which was clever. Sam is a wonderful and slightly grumpy hero who is loyal, thoughtful, and tender. His love for his family is heart-warming as is his soul and faith journey that allows him to forgive and love fully. Sadie is an adorable heroine, full of energy, creativity, light and bubbly goodness. She also has need for healing from her past and Sam helps her overcome her fears. Throw into this enchanting friends-to-more love story a misplaced engagement ring, a Little Free Library, and a gorgeous island setting, and you have the perfect beach read. I received the book from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

The Perfect Beach Read

This standalone beach novel was just the story I needed. I could relate to the heroine’s dilemma because I’ve experienced something similar myself. I thought Sadie and Sam had fantastic chemistry and Sam’s transformation from a cranky, unfriendly neighbor to flat out adorable was delightful. There is a little mystery in this one that I don’t think anyone will figure out until it’s revealed. And, if you think you might want to write a romance, you can learn the formula while you read. Each chapter starts with a tidbit from Romance 101. This was so clever. Once I started the story, I didn’t want to stop reading. It’s a perfect light-hearted romance that shows why Denise Hunter is such a successful author. I received an advance read copy from Thomas Nelson through Netgalley; however, I am purchasing the paperback to add to my collection, I will read this again.
