i like blum's catalogues of american film and theater. i like the pictures particularly because some of them are very rare. what i don't like is that these coffee table books are out of print. i ordered the silent screen collection, for example, and didn't get it! when i have the time, i will try again because these books are great resources for makeup suggestions, hair suggestions, costume ideas, as well as chronicling the depth and range of american film and theater.
Great Follow-up!!!!!!

Ok, so if Mr. Blum's "A Pictorial History of the Silent Screen" gets my vote for best book, this one would definitely come in second! It is a beautiful coffee table book that is full of lovely photographs and informational tid-bits about each year spanning from circa 1927 to 1968. The only problem is, there is far much more emphasis on the last twenty-five or so years than there is on the preceding ones. But, no matter! Where else can you find thousands of pictures of your favorite film stars? It showcases such sound stars as Bette Davis, Marlon Brando, Olivia de Havilland, Tyrone Power, Natalie Wood, and Spencer Tracy, as well as silent players who became sound stars, such as Gary Cooper, Joan Crawford, Ronald Colman, Fay Wray, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., and Myrna Loy. Once again, you can feel yourself fall back in time through the pages of this immense photo gallery. If you look for anything on the subject of films, then I would strongly recommend this wonderful chronicle of modern history.
