This book reminds me of free form crochet except it is from the 70's era. I have found that many of today's crochet techniques are usually found in older books in varying degrees. This is not a book stocked full of patterns but it is a book stocked full of creative ideas. The picture of crocheted pearls in the jewelry section of the picture gallery, shows that this is an old idea which has been brought to life again, as I have seen patterns for something like this today. There are other jewelry pieces in the picture gallery that show crocheting with wire which is very popular today. The book's main objective is to inspire us to create our own designs. I recommend the book for it's creativity, inspiration and its funkiness.

As a previous reviewer said, this book is grounded in the 70's, but don't let that stop you if you're looking to expand your crochet knowledge. There are techniques that I hadn't seen before. Different shapings that I will try now. I took the book on a whim since there was no picture, and I'm happy I did. It's not for those who want a pattern of a currently fashionably item, it's for those who want to strike out and create something of their own. I'm glad I took a chance. Most of the pictures are black & white (with the usual color ones in the center), but they are very clear. Crochet is so coming into it's own now, and this book will be a nice addition to your library!
Artistic designs

Even though this book was published in the 70's, alot of the designs can certainly be used today. Great reference if you are interested in designing your own patterns and a great proof that crochet is art.
great inspiration

i thought this book was just so interesting. i ordered it on a whim from a used needlework book site (that i wish i could find back again!) and was really surprised at the artistic crochet that was being done in the 70's. i've already gotten some very *groovy* ideas for converting clothes with crochet.
