Holly Winter's life is going to the dogs, but that's just fine with her. She's a feisty, 30-something dog-lover, and her expertise in the breeding, training, and caring for canines is just one of her... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The story begins. "A New Leash on Death" kicks off the dog lovers answer to "The Cat Who . . ." series by Lilian Jackson Braun. Susan Conant does equal justice to her story lines with Holly Winter & her two malamute doggie detectives, Rowdy & Kimi. I was hooked before I was half way through this book. No doubt - I will continue to read this series & search for the newest additions as they are made available in the marketplace. Hooray for Susan Conant!
one of the best books in the series

if not the best. Ms. Conant stays on topic without the rambling that characterizes her later books. Her descriptions of dogs are spot on. Her descriptions of people are true and unstereotyped. She's written a nice mystery with a workable if not too surprising plot. The gem in this is the obedience club setting, the dogs and the main characters, the dog loving Holly, Kevin the burly cop, Rita, her psychologist tenant, and the whole Cambridge dog training club. Conant writes about dogs and dog people with freshness and telling familiarity. You will see your own dogs in hers, and enjoy the book all the more for it.

What a great story for dog lover's! I think I finally understand how obedience titles are awarded. Miss Conant draws the reader into the cozy Cambridge world and successfully portrays the unusual relationships that often form in dog training classes. People from such diverse backgrounds join together with one thing in common - a love of dogs! She accurately depicts some of the eccentric and frankly, zany personalities one finds in the dog show world. Her relationship with her vet adds further intersting and romantic plot direction. Her insights into how we all cope with the loss of our best friends were very touching. I enjoyed the book immensely and look forward to reading others in her series.
Ms. Conant has done extremely well!

Hoving spent as much times at shows as I have, her knowledge leads one to believe she has as well! Her people and animal companions come alive and she obviously has a love for dogs that that only a true "dog person" has. I have read all of her series, but this one holds a special place in my heart. A must read for any dog lover as well as mystery buff!
