My Favorite Book By Martinez

I read this after Gil's All Fright Diner expecting another parody. While all the genre in-joke humor is there this book has quite an unexpected amount of heart without ever being sappy. We are gradually introduced to the pain and loneliness of our heroine without her ever resorting to whining. Her remarkable acceptance of the nature of things is a strength not often seen in fantasy heroes. It's as wacky as Martinez's other novels but it also has a warmth I enjoyed beyond my ability to express.

Don't miss another great book from a stellar author

Excellent story, well written, neat characters, and a smart, pragmatic, and oddly, because of her demonic, canabalistic urges, very human protagonist make for a fun, enjoyable read. I haven't been disappointed yet by one of his books, and this book honestly raises the bar a little higher.

Loved It

A very creative story. I have to say that I was very drawn to not just the story but the very interesting characters. Martinez has a way of creating a world and things in that world that most wouldn't see or think of. He takes something that's outside the norm and creates a very good read. Great characters, great story and in parts can make you laugh. I would recommend this book to anyone who's wanting to read a book where the author creates a different type of story, great characters and an overall fun and good read. If you haven't read it or any of his others you should pick them up - fantastic reads.

I do not understand the bad reviews

I'm sorry but I do not understand the reviews about this book. I read the first two books this author wrote and was pleasantly surprised by how different the stories were. I almost didn't buy this book because of the reviews on this page. They were so wrong. I loved the story. I very much enjoyed the characters and their dialog. It was entertaining and original. This book was a nice diversion, and I read it on a Saturday afternoon when I needed to lose myself in a story. Very original. Loved the duck! Also I have read every Terry Pratchett book. I seriously do not see the comparison. At all! If anything this author is so different from any other. And believe me when I say I have read EVERYBODY!

A classic in it's genre, and more

This is a book to treasure...brilliantly written and on the surface an engrossing read; peopled(metaphorically speaking)with wonderfully bizarre characters and an intricate fast-paced plot. It's a page turner, no doubt about it. But, there's way more to it than that...it sparkles throughout with gems of wisdom that will remind the reader of what life is all about. I am not a fan of this genre at all, being a dear sweet little old lady (and a writer) hooked on literary fiction. You know, the classy stuff. But, I have to tell you, in my opinion...this is some classy stuff. I loved it.
