YES!! A love story that isn't about hate for most of the story...

One of the problems I have with Harlequins is that they make the men too brash, arrogant and downright Mean. But how does one create interest without conflict? Author Annie West decided to write a real love story in which she brought the 2 main characters, Marina and Ronan, together with enough drama to keep the story interesting, yet not over-the-top. The main focus was on the love between these 2, which became more endearing as the book progressed. Marina has been disfigured in an accident and isn't skinny, so she thinks no man will ever be attracted to her, much less love her. She is losing her family home & her family company due to a ruthless man whom Ronan also has a bone to pick with. They decide to join forces to try to get Marina's company back. There is no mean-spirited dialogue between these two at all, throughout the entire book. They respect each other (what a concept, for an alpha male to respect the woman he loves) and care for each other, and wow--what passion! Ronan is tender, unsure of whether Marina truly cares for him (another new concept that is fantastic :) and quite an enigmatic character. Don't let this book pass you by if you are tired of mean alpha male characters that make you wonder why on earth any female would fall for them. Author Annie West has a very intriguing writing style which weaves a spell around the reader, drawing them in. I *loved* this book, and have now placed Annie West amongst my Favorite Authors List.

Great new find - and going on my keeper shelf!

This is what a Presents should be! The characters are wholly likeable. The heroine is strong but not overbearing, intelligent and independent. The hero is the now-requisite alpha male but warm and tender and caring. The plot and tension between was the characters was believable (as far as these things go). The story moved along although I felt the ending was a bit rushed, as if the author had reached her page limit. The loss of one star is for an entirely personal reason: because there were several good opportunities for humor which I felt the author let slip by. I will definitely pick up the next book by Annie West.

A fabulous debut from a new Presents author!

What a great read this was! It's romantic and dramatic and emotional and passionate. Everything I want when I pick up a Presents. I loved the Cinderella elements in the story too. I got so emotionally involved with these characters. Can't wait to see what this new writer does next!
