Book Overview

Here for the first time is a captivating autobiography of a French girl raised in the wild Moroccan frontier by her communist parents who fled France and vowed that "no one would speak to her of God and influence the development of her mind with oppressive superstition." Everything in her education, environment and training was targeted toward making her a perfect product of Marxist atheism. She sucked anti-Catholicism with her mother's milk.

Moving and Powerful - in my top ten of all time!

This book was given to me hot off the press in 1994 by a dear friend, Marcita H., who was the sister of the Mother Abbess who wrote the foreward. It remains at the top of my top ten favorite books of all time. The foreward itself contains a real gem about the decision to write an autobiography in the first place. Some people are "irresistably drawn to discourse by pen on that fascinating subject of self . . . from which the world is saved by reason of a notable want of enthusiasm in the publishing world." Such was not the case with Lucette, now Mother Namoya, who had to be pushed and prodded to document her life. The story highlights the amazing and mysterious power of the sacrament of Baptism, and what plans God has for those who "abandon themselves into his hands." Lucette was born to fiercely athiestic and socialist parents in France who moved to North Africa primarily to avoid her being raised around any influence of religion. Little did they know that her grand-mere secretly baptized her before they left. An athiest she was raised however. But in her heart she was sensitive to the presence of God whose name she didn't know but sensed in the beauty of a sunset or in the suffering humanity around her which she attempted to alleviate. As a teenager, she was a competitive diver and would practice in the ocean. She describes how she would also practice adoration "during my last swim at sunset, when every drop of water was a sun, and I was like one drowned in limitless beauty and glory." She doesn't whitewash anything though and if you read this book you will learn about some of the horrors of life in North Africa. Another favorite scene is when she's little and home alone and there's a bowl of fresh peeled shrimp on the table for her parents anniversary. She goes to the balcony and throws one to a beggar boy - soon there's a crowd and she tosses out every one. She spent time working with prostitutes and the down and out. At the age of 21, DeGaulle appointed her head of Social Services of North Africa. At 22 she told God "I want to give you my youth" converted overnight and entered a convent. This book is astonishing from a historical point of view, not to mention one about rapid spiritual development and the phenomenon of grace. I hope you read it!

A beautifully inspiring true story!

A beautiful story ... a true testament that "for God, nothing is impossible". Nicely written and easy reading; a joy for any age, especially for today's youth - an example of the benefits of enduring hardship and sacrifice.

Such an inspiring, fulfilling experience to read this book.

I could not put this book down. In a world filled with trashy novels that contain the usual tales of love affairs or intrigue, this book is such a gust of fresh air. It inspires one to the utmost and fills the heart, as the title states; with wonders. It truly fills the soul and mind. And what makes it extra special.....It's true!!! This is the book to read if you have lost hope in God or doubt his existence. Read it!

Fascinating. I read it to the end and immediately re-read it

Hard to put down. I couldn't wait for each tomorrow, when I could continue reading.
