The Plot: A meddlesome old woman in a small village enjoys nothing more than gossip and stiring up trouble. She targets Mrs. Charles when events seem to indicate that Mrs. Charles was implicated in the murder of an old woman years before, in similar circumstances to the murder of an old woman right there in the village -- which also could be laid at the feet of Mrs. Charles. Mrs. Charles must protect her reputation, and her life, as the killer tries to use the smokecreen to commit yet more crimes. My review: While major character Mrs. Charles is purportedly a psychic, those looking for a story with a supernatural twist will be disappointed. Mrs. Charles uses mostly intuition and her finely tuned ability to read people to help solve the murders in this tale. Those looking for a "cozy" mystery will be better served. Although I had the distinct impression I'd come in to the story after it had been going on for a few chapters without me, I was able to figure out what was going on after all. The characters are well drawn and interesting, and the setting (a small English village) served its purpose.
A Medium For Murder

Mrs. Charles is the main character in A Medium For Murder. She believes that she is psychic and uses a crystal ball to tell people their future. Most people thought that she was really odd and didn't like her until they need to find out who murdered Miss Player. I liked this book a lot. It had a lot of passion and made me want to keep reading it. The characters were interesting and I could relate to some of the characters problems because the author went into so much detail. This was a really good mystery book.
