If I could own just one book, this would be it. William Gibson's simple story about his family is written in elegant prose. The love he describes is palpable. This is truly a literary work of art.

This book was recommended by a friend poet/author as a "good read." I bought the book and thought I would read it as a summer book. But, the first 5 pages hooked me and I devoured this book in a few days, the last of which were at the local Starbucks where I wept tears of joy and sorrow as I felt the passion of Gibsons understanding of his family and the meaning of family. And, I don't cry often. Buy it and give it to everyone you know!
deeply moving and satisfying

Gibson's evocative reminiscence of his parents and the hope for his children is woven with a masterful command of the English language. To really appreciate the descriptive language used by Gibson a second reading is recommended. While the book, as suggested by the title, is a paen to his parents and the generations of humanity that lived and died before us, it is also an uplifting declaration about the future and our children. Very highky recommended.
A wonderful book that deserves to be read several times.

This superb chronicle is the author's lovingly crafted memoir of his family. Although structured around a requiem mass, the book becomes a universal meditation on love, marriage, family, and death. I did not want this book to end. It is a book to be cherished and read many times.
