Book Overview

Enter the London of Matthew Swift, where rival sorcerers, hidden in plain sight, do battle for the very soul of the city, from a World Fantasy Award-winning author.
Two years after his untimely death, Matthew Swift finds himself breathing once again, lying in bed in his London home.

Oliver Twist the Wizard

Wizard Matthew Swift was murdered. Now he's been resurrected and wants to know why, and who killed him in the first place. Also, it seems he's come back with a odd guest in in head. Griffin's novel is an interesting tale. At times it seems to meander and at times is seems a bit tongue-in-cheek but overall it's a great start to a new series.

Great Story

A Madness of Angels is an amazing book. The first 30 pages or so are a little hard to get thru, frankly, but once the story starts in earnest, it's a great ride. Won't go into deep detail, but it's a basically about a sorcerer resurrected after being dead for two years and going after those responsible for his death and the death of his friends. The story is engrossing. Even though it's over 600 pages, you'll finish it in no time because it's hard to put down. This is a start of of a series, but it works as a standalone as well. If you're a fan of Jim Butcher's or Kim Harrison's work, you'll love this book.

some of the best

I'm not even done with this book yet but just had to add my 2 cents to the reviews. I am constantly on the lookout for urban fantasy as good as Charles de Lint's. This one comes close. The author does an amazing job of describing London, at every level, all the characters (and there are a lot), as well as how the hero's magic works. The story itself is not that unusual but all the "special effects" are. This is a fun read. So I got curious about the author and find out she's only about 24 and at the tender age of 14, published a book in the Young Adult genre, and went to do more of that type. Now she has moved on to adult fiction and is an author to watch. I can't wait to see how her writing and skill develops over the years, assuming she keeps writing, of course.

Excellent Book

I was unsure of this book when I first got it, but decided to give it a chance. I am glad I did. It was fantastic.

Brilliant!!!

I picked this book up on a whim. It was a bit of a slog for the first thirty pages but after that, boom, pow!! Matthew Swift, a young sorcerer, died two years ago. He finds himself resurrected with a few extra passengers sharing his body. His battle for survival and revenge is textured, rich, funny, and dark. I highly recommend this book, especially one likes Neil Gaiman.
