This is a GREAT TRUE STORY!

This is a great story of radio host Larry Elder's relationship with his Dad growing up. It is so well told and is heart wrenching but does have a happy ending. I highly recommend this book. Larry talks about how his father rarely slept working couple jobs & going to night school so he was easily angered and flipped out on the kids a lot & they didn't understand. He tells about his Dad's life as a kid & he didn't know who his father was so just took the name Elder from one of his mother's boyfriends, he also didn't know his true date of birth. He says his Dad went to California thinking that he'd be less likely a victim of discrimination when job hunting there...but he was wrong. He went into a day employment office & was told he'd have to go out & come back in the "right" door which he did. He sat there daily until he got a job. Larry didn't talk to his Dad for 10 years, went off & became a lawyer and decided to confront his Dad & tell him what a jerk he thought he'd been to the kids, but it turned out completely different than Larry had imagined. The 5 minutes he'd planned on telling his Dad "what for" & then leaving forever turned into 8 hours of talking & revelation from Larry's dad that completely changed Larry's heart & ultimately many years of a father/son loving, respectful close relationship. The hardback edition is called "Like Father, like Son" & also there is a wonderful audio version narrated by Larry. You will cry, laugh & read again and again.
