A Lost Touch of Magic

Padruig returns to take his rightful place as Laird, only to find the castle and family are in chaos. The ghost of his dead sister is haunting him, his remaining sister was promised to a sadistic monster and there is a bad laird sending the clan into ruin. In order to take back control, Padruig makes a deal with a neighboring clan for support, but in exchange, he must marry the willful Aimili. Aimili loves her horses and is happy to live her life taking care of them instead of running the castle as is expected. She had dreamed of marrying Padruig nearly all her life, but the reality is nothing like she expected. Padruig sees her as a child and deserving of more than his scarred and unworthy self. While Padruig and Aimili try to find their way through the situation life has thrown them into, they discover that there is more to their problems than they thought. A dangerous magical creature has escaped from a hidden land called Paroseea and is intent to cause havoc and take his revenge on Padruig. The story lines here are complicated and the first part of A Lost Touch of Magic is hard to get into. But the more I read, the more I got into the story and wanted to know what happened next. Padriug's self-hatred is a bit tiresome, but Aimili is an excellent character and fun to read about. I expected to hate this book and ended up really enjoying the resolution. Not a light read, but definitely enjoyable. Niki Lee Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

A Lost Touch of Magic by Amy Tolnitch

"A Lost Touch of Magic" is a historical, paranormal romance by Amy Tolnitch, another talented writer from Medallion Press. This is the fourth book in her 'Lost Touch' series and while each story is loosely connected, each is also a stand-alone read which doesn't require any knowledge from previous books to understand and get the full story. Tolnitch has a deft touch with romance and manages to capture my attention anew each time I pick up one of her books. Padruig is the rightful Laird of both Castle MacCoinneach and his clan. Now, thanks to a visit from the ghost of his dead sister, he's headed back home to set things right. But first he needs some allies and heads for the home of Laird de Grantham, a friendly clan from his father's time, to request his aid. de Grantham's assistance will come with a price...the hand of his daughter in marriage. Despite Padruig's protests, the Laird is firm and so Padruig agrees--vowing to do all he can to protect and spare the lass from his own fierce desires. Aimili has dreamed of marrying Padruig since she was a small girl, but the Padruig of her dreams is NOT the same scarred man who appears at her father's gate asking for aid. When she learns of her father's demand, Aimili is furious! While it's true she has some unusual talents and would rather spend time with animals, her father shouldn't have to force any man to marry her! But in the end, Aimili has no choice but to marry a man who doesn't appear to want anything to do with her. Although neither of them know it yet, clan MacCoinneach has an old and powerful enemy lurking within the walls of the castle. An evil man with strange talents who escaped his captors and harbors a grudge against 'the MacCoinneach'. They, and the clan, will need allies more powerful than mere humans to defeat him. Sensuous romance, high fantasy, and lyric prose come together in "A Lost Touch of Magic" to create a smashing fairy tale for the older crowd. Even though I found some rough spots and a few plot holes, none of it was enough to keep me from devouring this book like a box of chocolates. The characters, including the secondary cast, were all complex with interweaving motives. The story itself unfolded smoothly with increasing tension and suspense towards the end. Set in Scotland, with sexy highlanders and mysterious Fey, fans of both historical romance and paranormal romance will enjoy the latest by Amy Tolnitch.

intriguing historical

Padruig MacCoinneach left his heritage and his Highland home vowing never to come back to Castle MacCoinneach. However, when his late sister's ghost demands he go home to protect their sibling and their clan, he does so by becoming the chieftain a role he disdained. Padruig also learns that he must marry Aimili de Grantham, who has placed him on a pedestal since childhood, if he wants an ally; she is the price. Aimili prefers horses to people as she can communicate better with steeds using her psychic skills. Sad that he crumbled from his place of adulation in her heart, Aimili still loves the brute, who shows not one iota of interest in her. She plans to seduce her spouse even as they must team up to prevent evil creeping through the walls of Castle MacCoinneach. Medieval paranormal romance fans will appreciate the fourth "Touch of ..." thriller due to the behavior of the prime player Padruig who rightfully feels overwhelmed and should be as he stars in two co-equal plots involving women he loves in peril. In some ways the audience will feel as overwhelmed as the hero as the story line constantly switches back and forth between Padruig's concerns for his sister and his concerns for his wife. Neither truly takes charge nor do they fully merge into one cohesive main plot. Still fans will enjoy Amy Tolnitch's intriguing historical due to Padruig's travails. Harriet Klausner
