Cohen's biography, though a bit long for a straight read-through, is a marvelous anecdotal guide to tax law and practice from World War II to the early 2000s. It gives good color on major themes and events, and the anecdotes show, in part, how the sausage is made on the public, private, and academic sides of practice.
