N is for Newt

During my 10 years of teaching elementary school, I was always searching for uniqe ABC books. No matter what age, they are always good ways to teach so many concepts. Even my fifth graders got into making ABC books with their buddy first graders. A is for Alligator, by Nancy Bringhurst is a fun and unique version of the ABC genre. She does not go with the typical dog and cat and horse, but chooses Newt, Octopus, Kangaroo, Quail, Vulture and Worm as her characters, having them do silly things and then asking a question. Kids will love the irreverent humor and great illustrations. One of my favorites is "T is for Turkey who won't eat his dinner. Now why do you think he wants to get thinner?"
