"For I know the plans I have for you" - [this is] the LORD's declaration - "plans for [your] welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." --Jeremiah 29:11 (HCSB) Don Wilton, whom Billy Graham refers to as his "TV pastor," reaches out in his new book to everyone from the "rat race to the rut-race" who may need a fresh word of hope and encouragement. "It is time for you to know that all of God's Word is without error and is absolute in all of its truthfulness," he writes. "Jesus Christ came into my life and everything changed. This is where a hope and a future begin." In A Hope and a Future , Wilton introduces readers to the power of God's Word, helps them establish biblical principles and apply those to everyday living, and guides them toward resolutions that can fill their lives with spiritual purpose instead of earthbound discouragment.
When I first opened the pages of this book and began to read it, I had every intention of reading, reviewing, and then hosting a giveaway. But with every page I turned, I became more and more convinced that this was a volume that needed to be added to my personal library. Not just because I really like the elegant cover, but because the content is so applicable to life for both myself and many others. I would am even willing to say that I would recommend this book to anyone. A Hope And A Future: Overcoming Discouragement is a book about how we all face discouragement at some point in our lives. Even multiple times in life we fall into the pit of discouragement. Pastor Don Wilton takes us beyond the facts of discouragement and into the daily application of rebounding, healing, and moving beyond this overwhelming problem. Written from personal experience, A Hope And A Future talks about the basic things that add to and even cause our discouragement. Pastor Wilton not only talks about the root problems, but more importantly he addresses how we can overcome them. I really like how Pure Publicity describes this book: Pastor Don Wilton, who is also known as Billy Graham's pastor, believes that discouragement is prevalent today and can have a negative impact on a person's family, work, ministry and relationships, and may also lead to health ailments and depression. To encourage those who are feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about their future, Wilton has written A Hope And A Future to help people break the day-to-day discouragement cycle. "I want to provide principles and illustrations from God's Word for people to live beyond their circumstances, and despite their situation, show that God can bring them through it," Wilton says. In A Hope And A Future, Pastor Wilton parallels the lives of biblical figures Nehemiah, Samuel and Moses, men who overcame discouragement by making a choice to take action. He also stresses the importance of understanding spiritual gifts, sharing your faith, giving to others, and knowing the spiritual enemy. A Hope And A Future helps people to: * Identify and overcome spiritual emptiness and spiritual burnout * Recognize the relationship between health and fulfilling their spiritual calling * Understand why God allows spiritual attacks on Christians * Combat spiritual attacks with armor of God * Understand the ten tactics Satan uses to discourage and seven defensive actions If you are currently dealing with feelings of discouragement, have experiences discouragement in the past, or have not yet dealt with discouragement, I HIGHLY recommend this book for you to read. It is easy to understand and enjoyable to read with many personal stories to illustrate the focus of this book. I will leave you with my favorite quote from page 18 of A Hope And A Future: "We must ask the Lord to open the eyes of our hearts so that we may see not only our blessings that are on the surface, but also those that are below the surf
