A lost scientific gem

This is one of the few books written about AT & T Bell Laboratories as it existed before the government decided that the Bell System was too big. It chronicles the "Labs" during one of it's most intense discovery, development periods. Interestingly, the author invokes names of the participants which is a pleasant change from the usual technical reiteration of developments. This book may be the only one written by people who lived and worked during the "Labs" heyday. Unfortunately, science and technology has lost the gem of it's crown and the replacements are shadows of what once was. Worth a read if you are into technology development and what a well organized effort can accomplish.
