When Ginny, an elderly mountain woman, suddenly goes missing, the local sheriff is slow to suspect foul play. But Ginny's neighbors, Ann and Steve, are concerned right away. Recently moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains from the Midwest, the couple have befriended Ginny and know it would be unlike her to leave without telling her friends and family. After several days pass and extensive searches for Ginny turn up nothing, the sheriff believes she is dead. Ann disagrees; her intuition tells her that her friend is alive and being held somewhere against her will. Since childhood, Ann has had paranormal experiences, visions that have at times proved accurate. Though she questions that she truly has "the sight," as the mountain folk call it, she's compelled to search for Ginny. When Ann receives anonymous threats, the authorities urge her to leave the investigation to them. Her husband fears for her safety, as does her old friend, Rebecca, who has come to visit from Illinois. Ann, however, refuses to give up, and her list of suspects grows to include a moonshiner, a handyman, even members of Ginny's family. To complicate matters, Rebecca's new love interest may be involved as well.
