Eminently readable travel guide...

This book meanders delightfully from beach to beach along South Carolina's Coast, starting in the north at Myrtle Beach and ending up down south on Daufuskie Island. In his introduction, the author states he has been "hanging around the coast" for more than fifty years. Even if Starr had not stated this, his insider's perspective on the many beach communities SC supports is obvious throughout the book. While this narrative does not have as much detail as a AAA travel guide would, it is lovingly written and does a beautiful job conveying the sense of place that each of these communities has. I would recommend it to anyone trying to get the feel of the coast of South Carolina.
