Excellent

A recommend buy, I did know if I would like this dictionary, but when I received it, and had an opportunity to review this dictionary, it is excellent.

Good for study

This book is very useful for studying many of the images/types/shadows used in the scriptures. Although you won't always agree with the definitions the author uses- even the ones he is dogmatic about, you can still appreciate the value of this book for personal reference and study. There are some minor set backs though, such as the author seems to have forgotten to include a few symbols that you would think he'd include e.g. a trumpet (which is often used in the scriptures as a prophetic warning/judgment/announcement.) Also the author (although interestingly enough) makes what I consider some serious errors. For example, for the number "five" he says: "every chapter number five in the bible contains some story of man's weakness and inability. For example: Gen 5: Although men lived many years, they must eventually die. Exodus 5: God's people in their weakness were crushed under their oppressors..." (p. 166) Clearly, this is him reading into the text something that would not have been found until recent times when we started to label the Bible with chapters and verses as if it were poetry. However, it is interesting nontheless.Overall though, I don't think you'll find many other books that set out to cover as many images/symbols/shadows as this book does, with accompanying verses and descriptions. This is a topic which probably only a handful of books sets out to cover, and Wilson does it well. Every student of the bible should have a copy of this on their bookshelf and I highly suggest you purchase a copy.

REFERENCE MATERIAL BEYOND THE ORDINARY

I GREW UP WITH A COPY OF THIS BOOK IN MY HOME AND HAVE OFTEN TURNED TO IT IN CONJUNCTION WITH WORD STUDIES IN MY BIBLE. THE INFO FOUND HERE IS DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER OFFERED IN STANDARD BIBLE DICTIONARIES AND STUDY GUIDES THAT ONE USUALLY USES; WORDS THAT ONE CAN'T LOOK UP IN THE STANDARD REFERENCES SUCH AS: SPIKENARD, SPICES, HERBS, FLOWERS & TREE TYPES MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE ARE FOUND HERE. THE LAYOUT IS CLEAR AND EASY TO USE. THE ARRANGEMENT OF INFORMATION IS ALWAYS CONCISE AND INCLUDES THE SCRIPTURAL REFERENCE(S).
