No... No!!

I am huffing right now. For the past 2 volumes things have been getting more dramatic in odd ways, but ways that are on theme for the story and characters. However, this time, this volume has taken too far, and I will not stand for it! I believe that blame should not be assigned unless that is the only way to see how to fix the problem, I am feeling feelings at the moment of writing this and I don't care, I blame the editor, Ms. K. Dead stop. Now I will explain how; during this volume, Maria finally lets her feelings out and recall's memories of her troubling past, and the person who reveals their feelings to her, (I'm not saying who as to not spoil anything,) practically assaults her and gropes her even though that is completely out of his character right after she gets emotional and says it she wants to "give him something." Nowhere through the rest of the series has that particular lust came out so strongly nor so surprisingly. (Well, when Shintaro, aka Eros, came into the picture he was just as blunt as Maria was in the beginning, so he said something shocking, but he didn't mean anything by it.) So why I am assigning blame to Ms. K is because Mr. O, the first editor for the series, left sometime around the end of volume 6, I am guessing on the timeline though as his departure was announced in volume 8, and in the afterward it said that while Ms. Kay is a very lovely lady who would bring pastry, she is also ruthless in her notes and said that parts needed to be more dramatic, and it seemed like around that volume things did become more dramatic, and even Maria seemed less like Maria. Not just because she was maturing as a person, something else felt different. While my love of the characters and Maria has not waned, I do hope that the story comes a bit more back to its roots and shows our favorite heroine and her friends in a lovelier light. Did I use this review to vent? Yes, yes I did. Is that unusual for me? Yes, indeed it is. Do I regret it? Absolutely not, it needed to be said. UPDATE: While I still do not regret my previous statements, I will say after finishing the series at volume 13, I now realize that something needed to happen to progress the story in the way it needed to. However, that something could have been a bit softer to match the overall tone of the series and to make things not as jarring. To read more on the progression and conclusion of the series, check out my review for A Devil and Her Love Song, Vol. 13, coming Sunday 2/15/23.
