He experiences common and universal passages such as the love of his dog, trying to run a makeshift beverage stand, school, painful piano lessons and awkward interactions with girls. Throw in the non-typical such as the Great Depression, World War II, and the Golden Age of Radio and you have a boy's rite of passage, his deliberate ascension out of shyness, and a historical perspective of that time frame. Written in a very honest and humorous manner the book puts you in the mind of the author and allows the reader to experience that day and age. It's an easy read and hard to put down.
