a mix of toys, decorations, food and fun

This book was put out in connection with the Museum of American Folk Art. Many of the crafts are reproductions of antiques, from the museum of elsewhere. There are good color photos of both the antiques and the reproduction. There's a section of traditional foods, including canning, and a recipe just as written by Martha Custis (later Washington). The crafts are wonderful, inventive, and with incredible variety, from dipping candles to making toy trains, weathervanes, Teddy bears and samplers. These are crafts for adults. They demand some skill, and the directions can be long and complicated. But they are also fun, and the results are satisfying. I've owned this book for over 20 years and made a lot of stuff from it, and had fun every time. I have never made any of the recipes, but they're fun to read. I'm not giving it a five just so you'll know that these crafts aren't easy.
