Great read!

I love the idea of gay detectives working together as partners but they aren't 'partners'...yet! The struggle of the time period was realistic and I love the characters themselves and how they are played out. Especially with the MC being the hesitate one. He's adorable.

Good Victorian Murder Mystery

This is a well written, interesting murder mystery set in Victorian London. The twist here is that the main character Inspector Devlin is gay. I like that the author doesn't try to give her characters modern sensibilities about this. They know that it's criminal to be gay and that they have to hide their preferences. The murder mystery is not really a mystery. You know fairly early on who is the Jack the Ripper style scoundrel. But it is action packed and gives a good idea of the period. All in all, a good first effort.

Scoundrels Aplenty!

I wrote this book, so of course I'm biased, but if you love a good murder mystery, you'll love A COLD-BLOODED SCOUNDREL! The place is London; the time is 1889 - one year after Jack the Ripper's reign of terror galvanised London. A series of bloody killings has once again gripped the city, except this time the victims are male... ...male prostitutes. Some are gutted, others burned, but each is marked by a bloody thumbprint somewhere on the body. What does it mean? Why a thumbprint? And why does the murderer set his victims on fire? Is London in the grip of another Ripper? Or is Devlin himself the target in a hideous game of cat-and-mouse? If you're in the market for a period thriller that will keep you up way past your bedtime, this is the book for you. I guarantee it. After all, I wrote it. :-)

A Cold-Blooded Killer

If you like period mysteries, with the kind of chilling forensic details that keep you up nights, then you'll love A COLD-BLOODED SCOUNDREL! I should know - I wrote it. If you're not afraid of murky London alleyways, lit only by gaslight, and if the thought of being stalked by a shadowy madman doesn't faze you, then you'll enjoy my latest novel! The date is 1889 - one year after the vicious Jack the Ripper murders - and a new serial killer is harrowing the East End, killing male prostitutes and setting them on fire. It falls to Inspector Phillip Devlin, a veteran of Scotland Yard, to stop them - but does Devlin have any chance of winning against an opponent as strong as this one? And why has the murderer suddenly turned his sights on Devlin? You'll want to read it with the lights on.ALL the lights on.JoAnne Soper-Cook, author
