Rev. Gilbert Reid was born in Laurel, NY in 1857. He graduated from Whitestown Seminary in 1875, and the Union Theological Seminary in 1882. Reid went to Shanghai, China in 1882 to begin mission work, and he founded the International Institute of China (I.I.C.) in 1894. He was also the editor of the Peking Post.
