A little girl pictures the things her parents talk about, such as a chocolate moose, a gorilla war, and shoe trees. This description may be from another edition of this product.
The English language is all [messed] up. Foreigners recognize that immediately, but it takes we Americans much longer to realize that. Of course, with all the goofy rules and exceptions in English, it can be quite fun to speak it. No more is this more apparent than with homonyms (words that sound the same but have different meanings). Kids love homonyms, and used in an imaginative context can help children gain an appreciation for language. With that in mind, A CHOCOLATE MOOSE FOR DINNER is a delightful book. The sayings and the illustrations that accompany those phrases are a joy to read and usually get several laughs from children. A few of the phrases (shoe tree, and the rowing allusions) maybe a bit unfamiliar to modern audiences. Nevertheless, those terms add to the book rather than detract. Children love this book and it is sure to be a winner in alomst any home.
A witty book that speaks to all ages

I took a graduate class this summer in which we had a guest speaker who taught first grade. She was explaining something new in education called "Edible Education." She first read this book to our class of adults. She held our attention as if we were little ones. Then we had some real chocolate mousse. I'm a teacher of French and will use this book to show students how odd our own language is. Then we'll have some real chocolate mousse. I truly adore this book and know that it will be a favorite for my children some day.

As a special education teacher in training, I highly recommend this book for parents and educators. Not only are the illustrations wonderful, but it helps teach kids that the English language isn't always literal!

A very entertaining book full of lively, figurative language and illustrations! A good book to introduce young children to details and literal meanings in a humorous setting. An excellent book for middle and upper elementary ages for descriptive, figurative language as well as literal meanings and context.
Amazingly clever puns are a delight!

I loved this book. On each page there is a literal picture of phrases such as "drives me up the wall" and "fish tackle". Wonderful illustratons. Perfect for the beginning reader.
