When Joe, his sister Gracey, and their mother are evicted from their apartment and left homeless, they live in shelters and on the streets, looking for work and a permanent home.
I bought this book, read it and gave it to a local preschool where I knew a lot of kids have been homeless or are homeless in the sense that they aren't sure which home they'll be sleeping in on any given night -- a friend, Dad's, uncles, aunts, you name it. The kids love this book! It captures what it's like to not have things going just the way you want and still be able to find beauty and love in your life. The line drawings allow kids to fill in their own colors and they do, telling me just how they think the street looks. Their imagination makes it colorful. Hats off to Sandy! Well done!
