Fatastical slice of life

It takes typical creatures from fantasy books- people with animal characteristics, like goats or horses, etc. and puts them in ordinary situations. But the author has developed the world incredibly, and in each book there are pieces of history that can be read about the world. Semi-Spoiler: Topics addressed in this volume, as well as later ones, include racism and (hinted) lesbian romance.
