A Sherlock Holmes devotee searches for her father's killer.

Emily Potter and Thomas Hall arrive in Denver on the same stagecoach. Having inherited her estranged father's home (which she discovers is a bordello), she has come to put her amateur detective skills to the test to find her father's murderer. It doesn't take much thought to figure out that Thomas Hall is not the reverend he pretends to be, which puts him at the top of the suspect list.In spite of several close calls, Emily seems to be oblivious to any threat to her own safety or virtue. Indeed, she doesn't seem to be very firmly grounded in the real world, in spite of her intelligence and logic. That's why Thomas (a.k.a. Watson) is a perfect match for her. He is attracted by her beauty and intelligence, but his eyes are open to the danger that stalks her.And Rosie, the ghost in the mirror (? ), added some humor to the story as well. The only thing I could have wished for is a little more insight into the character of Emily's father, who seems little more than a cardboard character in spite of the fact that his name is mentioned on just about every page!

A refreshing romance that is genuinely delightful

The lawyer wrote Emily Potter to inform her that her father died, leaving her with a bordello and an apparent missing fortune in gold. To the surprise of her father's Denver attorney, Emily announces that she plans to occupy her father's house of ill repute. Emily loves mysteries and plans to incorporate Sherlockian logic to uncover who murdered her father. On the stage to Denver, Emily meets Reverend Thomas Hall, who offers to help her learn the truth. Though Emily finds herself attracted to the man of God, she wonders if he might just be the culprit she seeks. An assailant decides to silent "the world's second consulting detective" and her companion. However this fails to deter Thomas and Emily from continuing to sleuth even as they fall in love. However, he knows he must reveal his identity to his beloved if he expects to share a lifetime of happiness.A CASE FOR ROMANCE is a superb blending of a historical romance with a historical amateur sleuth tale. The story line is entertaining and readers from both sub-genres will enjoy the who-done-it. Emily makes a great investigator, who, along with Thomas, deserve a sequel because they make such wonderful western detectives. The addition of a ghost adds no value, but does not subtract from a warm novel. A rose is not just a rose when Katie Rose writes the prose.Harriet Klausner

Another terrific read!

This book was great fun, with a determined heroine and a hero who knew he had to save her from herself. It had lots of Sherlock Holmes tidbits--The heroine was a SH devotee--which added loads of twists to the mystery. Katie Rose is a terrific writer. I loved her first book, A Hint of Mischief, and I hope to read many more. I'm a devoted fan
