A great adventure for all ages

This book was a pleasure to read. It's in a fantasy-meets-real-world style reminiscent of The Dark is Rising, The Chronicles of Narnia, or Harry Potter, but it also has a style of its own. Much of the fantasy world is fairly traditional -- portals between worlds, mysterious prophecies, good vs. evil -- but the Language (its magic) is a rather original idea, and much of the story's interest arises from that. I agree with the other reviewer that the family dynamic gives some great life to the story. The fantasy itself is interesting, but it's almost as fun to read it just for the reality and sweetness of the feelings and actions between the siblings and their mother. And some readers may be interested in knowing that the book is very family-friendly. It's got its violence and its terror, but it never goes beyond maybe a PG rating. The story wraps up nicely, coming to a definite ending but also maintaining some suspense for the future books Haderlie has in mind. I'll be rereading this one and looking forward to the next!

This book is a great read!

I loved this new book by Steven Haderlie! It was a fun read from beginning to end. I especially liked that the family in the book was actually happy, and that the main character had siblings (instead of being an orphan). The children in the story work together, instead of fighting the whole time. It's based around a young boy who is trying to save his sister. Haderlie has some great images, especially the flying door (my favorite part). I think people of all ages will love it, and particularly young boys. I strongly recommend this book.
