Book Overview

George loves his new puppy, Lucky, but Lucky is out of control. If George doesn't train him soon, his parents will make George take Lucky back to the pound. As for Lucky, he has a lot of work to do, too--he has to train George to give him more ham. By the end of this funny story, Lucky comes to realize that he can train George by doing the right thing.

Best of Betsy Duffey

This is the first of several "Lucky" stories. George could be your own son and Lucky your family pet. True to life story. Kids will love it!

A great book!

I have read this book to several classes of second graders, and have also given it as gifts to the same age range. The kids absolutely love it! It is a very innocent, clean-cut book, with a happy ending. What the kids enjoy most are the chapters written from the perspective of Lucky, the dog. I have also had older students with reading disabilities who were reading below their grade level, read it and love it, without feeling insulted. A great book for kids who claim they don't like to read.

This is a book kids like!

I just finished reading this book with a group of 8-12 year old students in a remedial reading summer class. As their teacher I can tell you that every child in my class loved this book. As adult, I loved it too! Betsy Duffey knows dogs, and she obviously knows a lot about young boys too, so her story of a boy desperately trying to train a puppy, and the puppy trying just as hard to "train" his boy is funny and true to life. If I can get a bunch of reluctant readers to give a thumbs-up to a book, I know it is a winner.
