Great story and not just for Christmas!

What a wonderful book! This book isn't just for Christmas, but is a delightful story that should be enjoyed all year round. The plot of the story was unusual, and I loved that the women involved in the story were older, not the usual young heroine. I think it was nice to see older women in roles other than grandmothers. Kudo's to Medlicott for writing books for women of all ages!

great book

Every book I have read by Joan Medlicott has been wonderful. A Blue and Gray Christmas was no exception. She had to do a lot of research to write this book. It was entertaining and educational. Even though it's a work of fiction I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys an historical book. One of my best reads this year.

Bridget's Review

Grace, Amelia and Hannah are friends and they also happen to live together. When they come across an old tin that includes letters and two diaries that belonged to two soldiers from he Civil War, they are surprised to find out that one is from the Union and the other of the Confederate. Both soldiers were found by a woman who took it upon herself to care for these two men. They decided to return the favor and take care of the woman who is responsible for their survival. The two men are torn between helping this woman and returning to the families that they have left behind. The three roommates take it upon themselves to track down the soldiers families and pass on the letters and diaries that have touched their hearts. This is a very heartwarming read that's perfect for the holiday season.

The best book in this series

In this entry in the Covington series, the three housemates, Grace, Amelia and Hannah, discover a box which contains letters written by two Civil War veterans, one fighting for the Union and the other for the Confederacy. The women begin to read the letters and they become very involved in their stories. They do some geneological research and discover where some of the men's modern-day descendants live. This is a very good Christmas story and, in my opinion, it is the best book in this series.
