This book is a helpful review of many articles from various literary sources. It is clear to see why mentoring is so beneficial when you read these chapters. This helps re-affirm the importance of your position as a mentor, and what you can/should expect as a mentee.

A Good Start: Building and Maintaining Mentor Programs

This book is a collection of articles about mentoring new teachers from the good folks at the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. I enjoyed reading the book as it not only gave many ideas on how best to retain new teachers by providing quality induction programs, but it emphasized that mentoring can and should be used to help the new teachers develop "best" practices that would allow them to become master teachers. The goal of this book is to do what is ultimately best for students. And that means helping teachers do and become their best. The book shows a lot of respect for teachers and their profession, trusting that there are teachers out there who can mentor and that with mentoring, new teachers can become great. At times the book seems redundant as the multiple authors will go over the same themes and ideas, but this can also help reinforce the main messages. The most valuable section for me was the articles describing quality mentoring programs. Plus each article gives you a postal address or e-mail address if you want to contact the author directly with any questions. If you are an administrator (or teacher) interested in developing a quality mentoring program for all your staff, this is a good place to start. It is a a better beginning.
