Emotion Capturing

When I read this book I was amazed! I laughed, I cried, was shocked, touched and generally charged up over the whole book. Mr. Van Fleet created this story so well that it literally pulls you right in, so you experience what the POWs went through during WWII. I was greatful when Mr. Van Fleet came to our English class this year and shared with us about his personal life plus all the detail of Clem that was actually left out of the book. This story is a must-read for all teens and adults!

Best Book Ever

While reading this book, I literally got tears in my eyes because this book was so touching. This book is such and experience in itself to read. Bryon Van Fleet actually came to our classroom and talked to all of us about his personal life and the life of Clem Pine and it was so nice. This is a really great book and is worth every penny just to read it once.

my uncle clem

this is the story about my great uncle clem! i think that Byron did a awesome job telling the awesome story of the Nazi Death March. i really like the detail that he used in the book. I felt like i was there in the plane and on the ground with uncle clem!!!

A True American Hero

This was a well written, fun read, about a true American Hero. The term "The Greatest Generation" was earned by men/boys like Mr. Pine. This story takes from fun adventurous highs, down to the lowest of miserable lows on this soldier's journey through WWII. Through it all you get to know what strong, gutsy, honorable men he and his fellow soldiers are. I would recommend this book to anyone.
