A powerful, inspirational true life story of Jack Oran. Living proof that with persistence, determination and belief in yourself all things are possible. This description may be from another edition of this product.
As a Holocaust-books-junkie, I was excited to read 80629 because it seemed to be a true account detailing the horrors of someone who suffered under Mengele's deranged hand. The "experiment" in question did not occur until more than half way through the book, and it was only a brief description. The rest of the book was boring compared to other true accounts. The end was rather disappointing as well, barely any happy ending (besides the surviving the Holocaust part).
Those of you who are looking to consume as much as you can about Auschwitz and the Holocaust may be interested in this book, but if you are only interested in a few really harrowing books on the matter and aren't deeply obsessed, then move on to these other titles about the experiments Mengele performed: Mischling (a fiction novel based on the experiments Mengele performed on children), Auschwitz: A Doctor's Eyewitness Account (a true account of a Hungarian doctor forced to work under Auschwitz doctors, it even has a happy ending), The Tattooist of Auschwitz (reads like a novel, but it is a true account, it's also rather new so prices may be higher), Surviving the Angel of Death (a very easy and quick read about twins who survived the experiments Mengele performed on them, you will devour it).
