While the internal architecture of the chip is covered in detail, external hardware and peripheral interfacing is not. Only the basic 8051/31 is covered, with little mention of the other variants available. There are extensive listings in the text, covering routines for handling keyboards and displays, as well as timing loops and communications. A large, clear typeface ensures that all of the listings are completely legible. The layout and presentation of the book is excellent, with a consistent, unambiguous style used throughout.
